We believe skills are proven, not certified. Everything here ends in a terminal: you write code, a sandbox runs it, and the verdict is yours to keep.
In memoriam
In memory of Terry A. Davis
Terry A. Davis (1969–2018) was a programmer who did something almost no one has done alone: over roughly a decade he built an entire operating system by himself, TempleOS, including its compiler and his own language, HolyC, down to the kernel and the graphics. When it was finished, he gave it away. He placed it in the public domain, free for anyone, forever.
He lived with schizophrenia, and his life was hard in ways we won't pretend to summarize. What we want to remember is the craft and the conviction. Three of his ideas quietly shaped this place:
- Give freely. He charged no one for a decade of work. Tuition here is $0, and our honor code still asks you to share knowledge generously.
- Keep faith, and persevere. He kept building, alone, believing he would be delivered. We keep the same stubborn faith that the work is worth finishing.
- Stay simple. TempleOS was a 640×480, 16-color console on purpose. Simplicity was the whole point, and it is the standard we hold our own code and design to.
